Validation of the Chinese Nonsuicidal Self-Injury Beliefs Scale

Abstract

|
|
This study aimed to validate a Chinese version of the Nonsuicidal Self-Injury Beliefs Scale(NSIBS) developed by Siddaway, Wood, O'Carroll, and O'Connor(2019). Four hundred and eighty-seven Chinese citizen adults completed NSIBS along with other psychometric measures. The Chinese version of the non-suicidal self-injury belief scale included 39 items within 10 factors as in the original scale. The reliability for the total scale was .80. Evidences for validity were established through a significantly positive correlation of NISBS with the Emotional Dysregulation Scale (DERS) and the Suicide Attempt Belief Scale (SABS) as well as a significantly negative correlation of it with the Tolerance Scale (PS). The Chinese version of the non-suicidal self-injury belief scale was confirmed to have good validity and reliability. Finally, the limitations of this study, its significance, and future research directions were discussed.
